About the Topic:
Eventing is one of the three equestrian disciplines at the Olympics, consisting of Dressage, Cross-Country, and Show Jumping — all performed by the same horse and rider team. Because it spans three days and multiple disciplines, eventing is often called the "Equestrian Triathlon."
The centerpiece, Cross-Country, takes place over varied outdoor terrain, featuring fixed obstacles such as logs and water jumps. Unlike show jumping, these obstacles do not collapse when hit, meaning riders must rely not only on their technical skills but also on deep trust and courage shared with their horses. It’s a thrilling and captivating discipline.
At this session, Mr. Hosono — a former Olympic rider (Atlanta and Sydney) and the coach of the Japanese team at the Tokyo Olympics — will share insights into:
The appeal of eventing
The global status of the sport
Reflections on the Tokyo Olympics
