181st FRC Meeting – June 1, 2022

Theme:

"Understanding Hoof Care from the Perspective of Riders, Riding Clubs, and Farriers"

Lecturer:

Isamu Nakamura Representative of Hokusei Riding Farm

As the saying goes, "No Hoof, No Horse." The importance of hoof health for horses cannot be overstated.

Ideally, all parties involved with a horse — riders, riding club managers, and farriers — should share a common understanding and cooperate closely in hoof management. However, differences in perspective can sometimes make this challenging.

This time, we welcome Mr. Nakamura, who is not only a top-level rider but also a riding club owner and an active farrier, to speak about hoof management from each of these standpoints.

Event Details:

  • Time: 18:30–21:00 (Reception starts at 17:30; Dinner at 18:30; Lecture at 19:30)

  • Venue: Shinkyotei, 2-4-2 Shinbashi, Minato-ku, Tokyo

  • Participation Fee:

    • FRC Members: ¥7,000

    • Non-members: ¥9,000 (Includes full-course authentic Chinese cuisine)

Lecturer Profile

Born into a family involved with the JRA (Japan Racing Association), Mr. Nakamura first experienced riding at the Sapporo Sports Youth Club.

He was a member of the Equestrian Club at Komaba Gakuen High School, specializing in farriery and livestock studies. Upon graduation, he obtained his farrier license and trained for a year under Mr. Osamu Aoki (current President of the Japanese Society of Equine Science and Director of the Japan Farriery Association).

In 1984, he joined Crane Riding Club. That same year, he accompanied Mr. Yoshihiro Nakano as a groom to the Los Angeles Olympics, traveling around Europe for about half a year for competitions. After 10 years at Crane, he left and established Hokusei Riding Club (now Hokusei Riding Farm) in 1994, where he continues to operate today.

While running his own club, he remains active as a show jumping competitor, farrier, and lecturer for the National Riding Club Association and the Japan Equestrian Federation.

In 2019, he won the Show Jumping Competition at the Ibaraki National Sports Festival. Born March 4, 1964.
