January 19, 2025 (Sunday) – January 25, 2025 (Saturday)Yumiko Hatta, Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture" Day 1 in Tasmania
After arriving at Launceston Airport in northern Tasmania, we headed to the hotel. The hotel, Fitzpatrick’s Inn, is a historic building dating back to the pioneering days (1830s), and we had it all to ourselves. The garden was beautifully spacious and full of flowers. At the far end of the garden, there were wild rabbits.
Day 2
We woke up to sunny weather. The sky was blue, and the air was dry. We were truly in Tasmania.
After breakfast, we headed to the stable. The horses were already out in the paddock. The staff brought the horses we’d be riding one by one and got them ready for us. We greeted the horses and got on. Finally, we were off!
We left the stable and proceeded down a gravel road. Then we entered a forest trail lined with eucalyptus and blackwood trees. The horses walked along quietly. We followed a narrow, winding path through the trees, and the scent of eucalyptus drifted on the wind. It was fresh, gentle, and unlike anything I had smelled before.
As we left the forest, we found ourselves in a vast open area. Beyond it, the ocean came into view. And then—we were on the beach. The sandy shore stretched on and on. The horses walked along the wet, compact sand near the water’s edge. The ocean sparkled in the sunlight. The blue sky and the blue sea merged into one, and it felt like we were in a dream.
After riding for a while, we turned back and returned to the stable. We thanked the horses, took care of them, and said goodbye for the day.
Back at the accommodation, we had a delicious dinner and reflected on the day. The horseback riding experience in Tasmania had truly begun.
